LOUIS at the Gansevoort Hotel

There's a new French nightclub in town and
you're probably not going to be able to get in. At least that's the
vibe the folks at the Gansevoort are hoping you get once you duck
behind the massive 50 foot shark's tank inside the hotel's main
lobby. Inspired by 18th century European opulence, the club has a
chic and decadent aura with a few modern twists. There's scrawling
graffiti art, French electro-punk décor and the gorgeous waitstaff
wears military influenced uniforms.
While the Wilhelmina models are waiting for the
elevators to whisk them up to the rooftop Plunge Bar, savvy guests
have to find the escalator that leads to the posh new David Barton
Gym inside the hotel's first floor retail space. The Louis entrance
is behind the escalator and its double doors open to reveal a curved
red velvet wall tufted with chrome skulls.
The 6,500 square foot VIP lounge is the newest
venture of The Opium Group and features banquette seating, long
sparkling white scrolled bars and a decidedly upscale vibe. Guests
of the hotel have the added benefit of their own secret entrance
that bypasses the main reception area and guarantees admission.
Think of this as an insider's "FastPass," a popular notion at
Orlando theme parks that gets hotel guests inside quicker than
others. Louis is the latest option in the hot new
club zone on 23rd Street. From
SET to Mokai, from
AeroBar to Plunge, the
hot bodies and pretty faces have migrated to the northern edge of
South Beach and their newest hangout is definitely the Gansevoort
South. |

A group of my friends and I got there around 11:00pm.
There was a wait to get in even though there was hardly anyone
in line at this time (being so early). When we got in - there
was hardly anyone there. We got a table area and started
drinking. The atmosphere is great and the crowd of people was a
pretty good mix as the night went on and the place became more
packed. The music was pretty good. The only complaint beside the
wait to get into a club that has hardly anyone in it - is that
the uniformed bus boy kept coming over and cleaning up our
table. We would pour a drink and set in on the table and get up
to dance and before you knew it - the glasses were GONE. This
kept happening - 2 or 3 times before it became not an accident
but clearly a tactic to get us to buy more drinks. Your talking
about a nice size group... so you can see how perturbed someone
can get over this. When the staff was confronted, they acted
like we didn't know what we were talking about and maybe assumed
that either we were blindly stupid or too drunk to realize the
situation. When we asked to speak to the manager - he was unable
to be located??? Total disrespect from the staff of Louis.
Instead of having fun - we had to take turns sitting at the
table and watching the drinks. Because of this, our night was
not an experience any of us will be looking for again. So, Louis
will not be seeing any of us again there. There are plenty of
good clubs on the beach that will gladly take our money in
return show some class and allow us to have a great time out.

visited miami for the Winter Music Conference and hit up
this decadent hotspot for a Calvin Harris / Kelis afterparty. I
was surprised at just how much I enjoyed the atmosphere. The
other partygoers were amazing and the decor was spectacular. My
eye never stopped looking around! When I return to miami in
July, this will DEFINITELY be one of the clubs that my friends &
I will be hitting up!

I went for a
bachelorette party and had a great time. The gentlemen at the
door were polite, the only request they had for our group was
that we remove all the bachelorette flare, which I didn't think
was unreasonable. We were dressed to impress, and ready to have
a good time. I didn't find this place superficial in the least,
but there is no doubt that they have a certain expectation for
the guests they allow in. I would go back. I'm sure being with
12 girls didn't hurt either.

Like other
people who reviewed the club earlier I could not get in 2 nights
in a row. Even though there is no cover charge the guy at the
door was forcing everybody into paying $300 for a bottle in
order to get in or he was only letting girls in and asking guys
to pay for a bottle. The staff is full of themselves. There were
4 of us there and we would probably spend $100-150 for drinks
anyways but they rejected us. Considering that we staying at
Gansevoort hotel were the club is located and paid $600 for room
and could not get into the club pretty much describes the level
of service. HIGHLY not recommended unless you want to deal with
cocky people who manage the club

I personally
had no problem with the staff, I came with my girlfriend and
didn't have to wait in line at all. The club itself is nice on
the inside, and décorated in a very vibrant fashion. Its lined
in neon pink lights and is fitted with different types of
furniture. The kings chairs are a nice added touch. The
bartenders were friendly and service was swift. Drink prices
were pricey but that's to be expected in a new venue. My only
real issue was the music, I prefer house music but they played
all hip hop on a Friday night. DJ did an ok job. I think its a
cool place to check out.
