The WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP at the Blue Monster at Doral is one of the
most highly-anticipated matches in the PGA tour. One of only four
matches sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA
tours, Doral is a dynamic four-day, 72-hole stroke play competition.
Attracting the biggest names in the sport, this event offers a combined
$8.5 million purse with $1.4 million going to the winner. The notorious
Blue Monster course, designed by Dick Wilson, has hosted the PGA Tour
for almost 50 years!
Around 75 eligible players compete for a spot at this tournament at
sanctioned matches in the Asian Tour, the Sunshine Tour, the Japan Golf
Tour and the European Tour. Top 10 players on the FedEx Cup list and the
top 50 ranked players on the Official World golf ranking can also
qualify. Past winners include Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and
Geoff Ogilvy. Tiger Woods has set and still holds many of the course
records in this event such as the largest margin of victory (8 strokes),
the largest lead at 54- and 36-holes (5 strokes) and the low finish
winner (6-under at 66).
