One of the Miami HEAT's most beloved former players, Alonzo Mourning and
his wife Tracy host ZO'S SUMMER GROOVE every July to raise money for
South Florida's neediest families. The three-day benefit includes a
celebrity golf tournament, a comedy show and gala, plus a
family-friendly street dance all in support of Alonzo Mourning Charities
- a not-for-profit organization that has already generated more than $10
million since it was founded in 1997.
Last year's party was dedicated to the funding of an Overtown Youth
Center, a safe haven for children living in poverty just minutes away
from Miami's burgeoning new Wynwood Arts District. Tracy Mourning also
developed the Honey Shine Mentoring Program to help empower at-risk
girls through workshops and summer camping programs. The Mournings
believe that all of Miami's children can succeed if given the proper
resources and direction. The charity also funds scholarship programs,
after school tutoring and health and wellness initiatives.
If you would like to participate in the Summer Groove and learn more
about supporting the Mourning's efforts, log onto the official website
where the schedule for next July's events will be announced in the
Spring. Past entertainers who lent their talents to the Groove included
Robin Thicke, Trey Songz and Alicia Keys plus comedians D. L. Hughley,
Mike Epps and Dave Chapelle. Tickets for each event will be sold online
