Three men fresh off a flight from Denver walk into the De Soleil South Beach lobby and say to the concierge, “Which way to the mancation?” While it may sound like a punchline in search of a joke, it's actually the latest craze in the hospitality industry, and two South Beach hoteliers are capitalizing on the trend—the De Soleil South Beach’s Gene Grabarnick and Ronald Molko. Grabarnick has described mancationers as a group of male friends, whose ties may go back as far as childhood or college, seeking a high-end, luxury getaway experience. And Grabarnick is eager to share his own mancation knowledge—be it driving around in exotic cars, puffing on hand-rolled cigars, even sipping champagne in a rooftop hot tub—to The De Soleil South Beach’s overall concept and services. |
In bringing all of his favorite travel elements to the hotel, located on Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue, Grabarnick was sure to include amenities like Mercedes-Benz 500S house cars, 24-hour concierge and butler services and 27 private 700-square-foot rooftop terraces with wet bars, hot tubs, sound systems and a retractable canopy. Much like its treatments, services and specialties, The De Soleil, which opened in December, is all about exceeding guest’s expectations. As the first totally new-build hotel in Miami Beach’s Art Deco District since the ‘50s, The De Soleil took a top-of-the-line approach to the décor and amenities, including the overall architectural design by Arquitectonica. Each of the 80 suites comes equipped with its own balcony, making it the first hotel in the area to offer this feature. The hotel also offers 27 impressively plush penthouse rooms with spiral staircases. |

And for those who bring their own cars along for the trip, The De Soleil also presents nightly car turn-down services, which include an overall car spa pampering experience. Instead of getting a mint on your pillow, boys can expect a treat daily on their car’s front seat. The arrival of the De Soleil South Beach marks yet another high-end hotel entering the South Florida scene. Since 2003, hotels like the Ritz-Carlton South Beach, W South Beach, the Hotel Victor, the Gansevoort and the Mondrian have either opened or announced plans for a South Beach presence. These hotels represent the upper echelon of hotels, and the De Soleil South Beach continued that tradition most recently during Miami Beach's Art Basel.
