Art Basel Miami Beach 2007 FAQs

tvl059hf 170 Art Basel Miami Beach 2007 FAQsArt Basel Miami Beach 2007 promises to be a turbo-charged week filled with parties and exclusive dinners welcoming international visitors to both Miami Beach and the burgeoning Wynwood Arts District. The centerpiece of the Art Basel experience is the Miami Beach Convention Center, but there are satellite events all over the city that draw thousands of eager spectators.

Art Basel, which hits Miami Beach from December 6 through 9, received over 600 applications from art galleries around the world last year, but accepted only 200 of the top prospects.

The most experimental of these were encouraged to participate in “Basel Nova,” occupying the booths at the periphery of the main hall and “Art Positions,” a collection of twenty freight containers on the sands of 21st Street beach.

art-basel-map1.jpgAt the opening of last year’s Art Containers, indy music’s bad girl “Peaches” performed to a crowd of pierced acolytes, designer clad hipsters and stunned art collectors gathered in the sand next to the sleek new $900 a night Setai Hotel. Singing loudly about her various body parts and cursing the night, Peaches personified the contradictory messages that make Art Basel the darling of international journalists.

floorplan-570.jpgThe city of Miami Beach, above all else, is supremely social, and those in the know receive dozens of invitations to charity gatherings and launch parties for new nightclubs and restaurants throughout the year. Unlike some cities which might have a gala on a Saturday night, it is entirely possible to wear a tux or a cocktail dress to an important event every night of the week in Miami and not feel out of place.

And that’s exactly what we plan on doing during Art Basel Miami Beach 2007.
