Josephine Baker in Havana–1950

Josephine Baker lived her life out loud, and this extraordinary performer will be honored at the World Erotic Art Museum in celebration of Black History Month in an extensive exhibit that traces her roots from the streets of St. Louis to the spotlights of the Folies Bergere.

Ms. Baker captured the imagination of the world both as a performer and as an ambassador for civil rights in the troubled 1960s. While she will be remembered for baring nearly everything on stage and screen, she also spoke at the side of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. during the march on Washington. Long before Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made multi-cultural families popular, Baker adopted twelve multi-ethnic children who came to be called her “Rainbow Tribe.”

Naomi Wilzig, founder of the World Erotic Art Museum, collected Baker memorabilia for many years and compiled a display in tribute to the entertainer including posters, paintings and so much more. The exhibit is opened to guests over 18 years of age from 11am until midnight at 1205 Washington Avenue. More info at 305-532-9336 or www.weam.com
