Not-So-Free Willy

dolph-175.jpgIf seeing the movie Free Willy didn’t traumatize you forever, there’s a chance you might see past the realty of wild sea creatures trapped in little concrete enclosures and take the whole family out to Miami Seaquarium to visit their brand new “interactive” Dolphin Harbor facility. Ten Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins have happily given up the dangers of freedom to spend time with you and your kids in a 12,000 square foot, 700,000 gallon pool.

While the controversial sea park has had a Swim With the Dolphins program since 1988, the new state of the art guest pavilion has an education area, changing rooms and a large reception area. Guests over 52 inches tall can participate in a two hour experience which includes feeding, touching and riding the animals across the pool. While the captive dolphins work for buckets of dead fish, you will be expected to shell out $189 per person to swim with them or just $40 to WATCH. Understanding that swimming with captured dolphins could be a physical danger to you as well as an emotional and biological danger to the dolphins should give you pause in any event…
