Versace Mansion Casa Casurina Offers Limited Tours | On Our Radar
One of the most exclusive properties on Miami Beach is opening it’s doors to a limited number of guided tour groups during the month of September 2008. While many dates are already booked, those curious about the fabulously palatial estate of the late Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace can join one of 3 daily tours of his former mansion to see the luxurious property he renovated in the years before his death in 1997.
Prior to his assassination early one morning on Ocean Drive, Gianni Versace was regularly spotted at the sidewalk cafes around South Beach enjoying la dolce vita, the sweet life we often take for granted here in Florida. Balmy breezes, haute cuisine and beautiful people have attracted visitors from around the globe and Versace was no exception. Friendly and approachable, the designer had no reason to suspect he would be gunned down by a stalker as he returned from the News Cafe with his morning papers.
Versace renovated a landmark property at the heart of Ocean Drive which had a storied reputation since it was purchased by Jack Amsterdam in the 1930s. Transforming a public apartment space into his own private palazzo, Versace spent millions of dollars creating a wonderland of gold fixtures and hand-crafted mosaic tile details bearing his signature Medusa logo motif. From the sweeping front steps (scene of the now infamous shooting) to the glamorous interior, every inch of the neo-palazzo bears the handiwork of an international team of artisans and reflects the opulent taste of Italy’s most famous fashion designer.
The property is now being transformed into an exclusive, members-only beach club with a dining room gaining a reputation as a gourmet hot spot. During September, a limited number of 45 minute private tours are available at 9am, 11am and 2pm on a first come, first served basis for 20 guests at a time. After September 30, the property reverts once more to a private and exclusive club. If you hope to catch a glimpse of the most spectacular mansion on South Beach, call today.
Casa Casurina is located at 1116 Ocean Drive. Call 305-672-6604 to reserve space on this limited tour program.
