After opening years behind schedule in October 2006 and almost $100 million over budget, the Center ended its first year with a $2.5 million operating deficit, largely due to lackluster ticket sales, which is another way of saying: We threw a party and nobody came.

Miami Beach Art Photo Expo, South Florida’s newest organization for contemporary photography, announces its dates for the inaugural In Fashion ’07 exhibition – the nation’s first presentation of signature collections from the world’s leading fashion photographers. The unprecedented exhibition will take place at The Surfcomber Hotel, 1717 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, FL, December 2 through December 9, during this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach.
Butter Gallery Opens in Coconut Grove
With an eclectic mix of contemporary artists the Butter Gallery in Coconut Grove will officially open its doors on Saturday, August 4th at 8:00pm, in what is seen by many locals as a rebirth of the area as a place for the arts and entertainment. Master painters and emerging artists alike will fill the gallery space with a variety of styles as wide as their age ranges. Cuban artist Francisco De La Torre III, 67, a student of the late Rolando Lopez Dirube has a long history of exhibitions, while the American Dylan Terry, 21, makes his gallery debut.
