Maison d’Azur at the Angler’s Boutique Resort in Miami Beach

Maison d'Azur cabanaMaison d’Azur brings the phrase “seafood brasserie” to the lexicon of South Beach diners. Emerging from the ashes of a former transients’ hotel, the Angler’s Boutique Resort is HOT - and it’s chic new dining room is firing on all cylinders and climbing the Top 10 lists of foodies all over the city. On The Boulevard | Dining on Miami’s Upper East Side

upper-east540.jpg

The Biscayne corridor has always been a more functional rather than leisurely strip of concrete. A major north-south artery, “the Boulevard,” as its known, has seen its share of ups and downs as Miami has developed into a sprawling metropolis. At times gritty, but always maintaining its unique character, the Biscayne corridor is now home to a variety of notable Miami restaurants, from neighborhood joints that feed a steady stream of locals to foodie-attracting hotspots helmed by celebrity chefs. A successful  farmer’s market this winter proved that this strip is fast becoming the epicenter of a food-conscious city.

Mission Possible: Discovering New Zealand Wines at Table 8

chef-govind-200.jpgThe French are quite particular about their wine. The folks in Northern California are too. Feeling Blu? Try Miami’s Red Light District This Weekend

0375-180.jpgNew visitors in South Beach are often content to remain in the safe confines of the lower 23 blocks of the city shopping, swimming, tanning and relaxing. In the last few years, we’ve noticed a certain stirring as repeat guests seek a more intimate glimpse of the area, an opportunity to escape the “Scene” and discover the off-beat places favored by locals.  This weekend, eager foodies are flocking to a once-seedy “No Tell Motel” on 7700 Biscayne Boulevard to check out Chef Kris Wessel’s brand new restaurant in our former Red Light District. Aptly named “Red Light at Motel Blu,” Wessel’s labor of love will highlight the real tastes of the region - encompassing South Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America.

gordon-160.jpgFood TV boasts ratings higher than most “full service” networks these days and some of the most ardent watchers are kids. With the rising popularity of BravoTVs “Top Chef” and Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” it’s no wonder so many aspiring chef-testants are home-grown kiddie fans. Emeril Lagasse boasts hoards of kid super-fans and though ticket prices for South Beach’s popular Wine and Food Fest are hundreds of dollars each, we were amazed to see so many teenagers sitting in the front rows of (rather boring) cooking

So, for the curious traveler looking for the blackest of beans and the thinnest of palomillas, we offer our Miami Beach Guide to Cuban Dining.

Miami Design District: Best Restaurants

0246-f.jpg

The Miami Design District has evolved from a sleepy neighborhood of showrooms restricted “to the trade,” into a creative night time destination that is rapidly becoming the new option for trend-driven diners who’ve grown somewhat weary of South Beach.
