MiamiVue | Hoffman’s Cafeteria | South Beach

This is a roof design element above what is now Jerry’s Famous Deli. This building was originally Hoffman’s Cafeteria built in 1940 and designed by Henry Hohauser. The building was the site of numerous nightclubs over the years including Club OVO, China Club, Rhythm Club, and the notorious Warsaw. The building was featured in a 1985 episode of Miami Vice titled “Made for Each Other.”

MiamiVue | Cavalier Hotel Ocean Drive
The Cavalier Hotel on Ocean Drive was built in 1936 and designed by Roy France, who also designed such notable South Beach hotels as the National, the St. Moritz, and the Sands hotel (which stood approximately where the Loews Miami Beach is today).
Further north up the Beach, France also designed the Saxony and the Casablanca hotels.
MiamiVue | Marlin Hotel Miami Beach
The Marlin Hotel at 12th & Collins Avenue in Miami Beach is a prime example of Streamline Moderne design, and displays this wave pattern around its roof-line. At one time this combination was referred to as “Style Moderne,” but that phrase now seems to have faded from use.

MiamiVue | Colony Theatre Lobby
The Colony Theatre was built as part of the Paramount Theatre chain in 1935 and was designed by R.A. Benjamin. In 1976 it was reopened and the original details were kept intact by Morris Lapidus who was architect for the restoration.
