Red, The Steakhouse, Opening “South of Fifth” in Miami Beach

Red, The SteakhouseRed, The Steakhouse, will soon open its doors in Miami Beach’s “South of Fifth” neighborhood, just a half block from the legendary Joe’s Stone Crab.

“We had interest from developers in LA, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Washington and Chicago to open a Red,” said Brad Friedlander, the man who created Red, Steakhouse and Moxie, The Restaurant. “But after thorough research and consideration, we chose Miami Beach’s South of Fifth.” SoFI is home to luxury condos, the hottest nightlife, and upscale restaurants including Nemo and Joe’s Stone Crab.

The interest in Red, The Steakhouse, is a result of local and national accolades the restaurant received from publications such as Esquire, Playboy and Restaurant Hospitality. One year after it opened, December 2004, Esquire magazine’s food and travel writer, John Mariani, dubbed it one of the five best steakhouses in the United States. In less than three years, Red, The Steakhouse earned the recognition and the kudos that most restaurants wait a lifetime to earn. So, when Playboy magazine assigned national food writer and author, Jeff Ruby, to search the country for the 10 best steakhouses, it was an inevitability that Red would be among the 10.

RedIn 2005, Restaurant Hospitality featured Red on the cover of its monthly publication, identifying the restaurant as starting a trend of cool and sexy steakhouses in America. And ever since Red opened, local media have been lavish in its praise for Red, calling it the best, the hottest, the sexiest steakhouse in the city.

“I knew early on Red would be a huge success,” said Friedlander, a 35-year restaurateur veteran. “The sexy look and feel of the restaurant definitely played a role in our national acclaim, but it’s the food and service that helped put us in the national spotlight.”

Friedlander says much of the credit goes to his award-winning chef partners, Jonathan Bennett and Peter Vauthy. Bennett and Vauthy developed Red’s menu and the extraordinary recipes that distinguish Red from all other steakhouses.

Friedlander, Bennett and Vauthy will be duplicating Red’s menu in Miami. “We a have tremendous product and the top food writers in the country agree,” Freidlander said. “We are launching Red in Miami because we are confident the quality will not suffer. If we didn’t believe we could produce another world-class restaurant, we would not even consider opening a second.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in January, and Red plans to open in Miami during 2008.
