Seeing Double in Italian: Miami’s Twin Chefs

quattro160.jpgDining out is twice as nice now that a number of Italian Restaurants actually feature twin brother chefs working to double your dining pleasure. We were delighted to hear that Nicola and Fabrizio Carro were working together to open a unique, upscale dining experience on Lincoln Mall. While South Beach has so many Italian eateries from humble pizza parlors to pleasant pasta shops, there are very few upscale restaurants offering the regional gourmet cuisine of Italy.

In 2006, Quattro Gastronomia Italiana brought the lighter tastes of Northern Italy to South Beach. Specializing in the food and wine of the Piedmont and Lombardy regions, the slick dining area is often as crowded as the popular sidewalk tables. Start with a deliciously simple preparation of burrata cheese drizzled with olive oil & cracked pepper. Share an order of the daily risotto and then any of the fresh seafood specials with a side of oven-roasted rosemary potatoes. Save room for the chestnut mousse or the delicate meringue for dessert.

Twin brothers Roberto and Emanuele Bearzi have opened their own Cucina Italiana on 1st Street in Downtown Miami. Offering breakfast and lunch to a packed house each day, the brothers specialize in crisp pizzas, homemade pastas, grilled panini sandwiches and a variety of salads. While most of the city keeps the delivery service hopping, the tiny dining room is always filled to capacity with the handful of diners lucky enough to score a table. If you’re tempted to try this hot new place for yourself, your best bet is to arrive before noon or after the lunch rush subsides around 1:45. The pastry counter facing the crowded sidewalk serves as a popular stand-up coffee spot filled with the daily inspirations of pastry chef Emanuele.

If Italian is indeed the language of love - you’re sure to love the food of these “Gemelli” chefs!
