Top Chef Teaches Teens
Food TV boasts ratings higher than most “full service” networks these days and some of the most ardent watchers are kids. With the rising popularity of BravoTVs “Top Chef” and Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” it’s no wonder so many aspiring chef-testants are home-grown kiddie fans. Emeril Lagasse boasts hoards of kid super-fans and though ticket prices for South Beach’s popular Wine and Food Fest are hundreds of dollars each, we were amazed to see so many teenagers sitting in the front rows of (rather boring) cooking demonstrations. What happened to skipping school and smoking cigarettes?
Families planning a trip to South Beach this year with an aspiring chef in tow will be thrilled to discover that the Loews Miami Beach Hotel is offering a fabulous opportunity to ditch Junior into the welcoming hands of the culinary staff! Working in concert with local party planner Barton G, your teens can participate in a “Culinary Arts Experience” including a one-on-one food arts lesson, a special family dinner party at the posh Barton G. Restaurant on South Beach, and a customized apron personalized for the young chef as a keepsake.
Barton G is a legend in town for his over-the-top parties and celebrity-driven charity galas. He can create a flower-filled dream wedding or organize a parade of painted elephants with equal aplomb. Dinner at his signature restaurant can include lobster pop tarts served table side in a giant toaster or popcorn shrimp in a custom popcorn box. Every course is a design extravaganza and if you’re ready to reserve now, Barton can show your kids how to turn a meal into a very special event.
