avalon A Fish Called Avalon in Miami Beach Pays Homage to Lobster SeasonAcclaimed restaurant A Fish Called Avalon in the Avalon Hotel on Miami Beach’s Ocean Drive, pays homage to lobster season in South Beach on Thursday, August 6th, when executive chef Brian Cantrell invites guests to experience a seasonal twist.  Favorite dishes have been enhanced with South Florida’s own spiny lobster to kick off the 2009 lobster season on August 6th.

The menu will include two new appetizers and two new entrees including a Chilled Yellow Tomato Gazpacho with Florida spiny lobster, a cucumber salad, sweet basil and a drizzle of chipotle oil ($13); Florida Spiny Lobster Salad with arugula, jicama, avocado, orange, pickled onions, toasted pistachios and a mango vinaigrette ($15); Grilled Florida Spiny Lobster with mashed potatoes, jumbo lump crab and a pea sprout salad served on a curry-carrot puree ($35); and the Bang Bang Florida Spiny Lobster in a citrus-mojo marinade, served with an avocado crema and hearts of palm salad, all topped with grapefruit, oranges and a pistachio dust ($35).

A Fish Called Avalon in The Art Deco District on Ocean Drive has hosted A-list clientele including Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Guy Ritchie, Norway’s King Harald V, Robin Williams and acclaimed chef David Bouley. The hotel and restaurant are noted as South Beach’s landmark sites, serving as the backdrop for many films and photo shoots including the 1983 epic crime drama Scarface, episodes of the 1980’s series Miami Vice and the 1999 Sidney Pollack film, Random Hearts.  The 1955 Buick convertible parked in front of the restaurant stands as one of the most photographed cars in America.
