Mercadito MidTown
Mercadito MidTown is fighting Child Hunger with its “Tacos for Strength.” Chef Patricio Sandoval of Mercadito MidTown joins forces with Bulldog BBQ chef Howie Kleinberg this month to create a signature taco that will be sold in support of Share our Strength®, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America by 2015. Guest chefs team up to craft a limited edition taco that will be featured on the restaurant’s menu as part of Sandoval’s year-long campaign to raise funds for the charity. Kleinberg’s pulled pork Bulldog Taco marries his soulful BBQ smoke with spicy chipotle crema, a slice of avocado and a roasted corn salsa. Fans of his popular North Miami eateries will definitely want to “Watch What Happens” when slow-cooked southern pork ventures South of the Border!
Chef Patricio Sandoval
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each Bulldog Taco served at Mercadito’s nationwide locations in January 2012 will be donated to the Tacos for Strength Campaign. Established in 1984, the organization has raised more than $300 million in the global fight against hunger and poverty including an ongoing dedicated effort by the culinary and foodservice communities. South Florida Chefs Michelle Bernstein (Michy’s & Sra. Martinez), Michael Schwartz (Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink), Clay Conley (Buccan) and Andrew Balick (Pied a Terre) have also contributed a signature taco of the month served at Mercadito Restaurants in New York, Chicago and Miami.
Chef Howie Kleinberg
Known for his dogged behavior on Bravo TV’s Top Chef Season Three, Chef Kleinberg went on to open two successful casual restaurants – Bulldog BBQ and Bulldog Burger – at 15400 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami. Next month, he joins a full roster of celebrity chefs at the annual Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival’s Amstel Light Burger Bash.
Mercadito Midtown specializes in upscale Latin cuisine and also features the fast casual Mercadito Taqueria, the adjoining carry-out cafe located at 3252 NE First Avenue in MidTown Miami. The Bulldog Taco will be available throughout January 2012.
