South Beach's Quattro Gastronomia Italiana Expands to Mexico City

KNR Restaurant Group, the group behind Miami Beach’s prestigious Italian restaurant Quattro Gastronomia Italiana will transport the decadent flavors of Northern Italy to Mexico City with the opening of Quattro at the brand new J.W. Marriott in the Santa Fe district of Mexico City, slated to open to the public on May 18, 2012.

Founded in 2006, the celebrity-frequented Lincoln Road hotspot combines authentic cuisine, beautiful wines and enchanting décor, earning them rave reviews and accolades including a recent AAA Five Star Award. According to KNR Restaurant Group Managing Director Karim Masri, “Our commitment to our diners has always been to provide a magnificent ambiance that honors the essence of Italian gastronomy. Quattro Mexico will deliver on that commitment.”

Talented identical twin chefs Nicola and Fabrizio Carro, who developed Miami Beach’s flagship menu and appeared on Martha Stewart, Iron Chef and Rocco’s Dinner Party, have created a menu reflective of their native Alessandria in the Piemonte region of Italy – known for its fine cheeses, exotic mushrooms, hearty local game and revered Asti and Barolo wines – as well as traditional dishes of other regions in Italy. “Our region has very unique ingredients that stimulate the senses and awaken our taste buds,” says Chef Fabrizio Carro of Quattro’s cuisine. Sophisticated but earthy antipasti, pastas, seafood and meats include dishes such as parmigiana di melanzane in forma, baked eggplant layered with tomato, melted mozzarella and basil; pólipo del Mediterraneo su tortino di patate prezzemolat, Meditteranean octopus with lemon dressing, served over potato and parsley salad; tagliolini alla puttanesca – tagliolini with tomato sauce, capers, anchovies, garlic, black olives and chili flakes and branzino intero en crosta di sale marino – Mediterranean sea bass, baked in salt crust, with sautéed vegetables. Special menú additions will rotate seasonally and focus on coveted Italian treasures such as truffles and other unique offerings.

Overseeing the kitchen in Mexico is executive chef Fabio Picchi, who hails from Tuscany, where he spent much of his childhood cooking with his father and later owned and operated his own restaurant in Florence, Italy. Picchi’s passion and traditional Italian technique perfectly complement the Carro brothers’ philosophy, delivering authentic passionate flavors with meticulous execution.

Equally impressive is the wine selection at the new outpost of Quattro, which exclusively features Italian wines from various regions. From the Aosta Valley to the Mediterranean wineries of Campania, Cambria and Sicily, wines have been hand selected for Quattro Mexico and allows guests to experience each region in an accessible and non-intimidating way.

The 2,800 square foot indoor/outdoor restaurant was designed by New York based firm, Studio A Design, also responsible for the Miami restaurant interiors. Seating 123, Quattro combines the sophisticated cosmopolitan ambiance of Mexico City with a cool, comfortable Italian charm. Warm coffee-colored hues and deep pine greens are offset by the striking Calacatta marble bar trimmed with Makassar ebony and flanked by floor-to-ceiling wine towers that showcase the extensive wine collection. Outdoor dining on the terrace, as well as a private dining room, offer guests an array of inviting options.

Quattro Gastronomia Italiana, is slated to open to the public on Friday, May 18, 2012 in the J.W. Mariott Hotel Santa Fe Av. Santa Fe 160, Col Santa Fe. Distrito Federal 01219 México.
