dancer1a.jpgFlorida Governor Charlie Crist has created a new state task force is aimed at strengthening Florida’s music industry according to Associated Press reports.

During a meeting here in South Beach with music executives, Governor Crist challanged them to create a significant music festival that features Latin music.

The challenge came in response to complaints from music executives that Miami wasn’t able to keep the Latin Grammys in South Florida.

The Latin Grammys had a somewhat checkered past in here Miami. The awards ceremony was scheduled for 11 September, 2001, but was postponed after the 9/11 attack.

The event was also moved from Miami to Los Angeles after Cuban exile groups here threatened to protest at the event because artists from the communist state of Cuba would have been allowed to perform at the ceremony.

The Latin Grammys showcases over 40 categories of music, including styles such as flamenco, ranchero and norteño.

Miami definitely needs to get some more festivals especially with an overall population of Latinos and with such big acts in the Latin genres. Check out one of Salsa Soneros of the new generation, Ray Viera. His new album is hot and the band has been performing live. Trombao is the next phenom.

The project, “Miami Beach”, The Game! would have been the perfect platform to present more Latin festivals in Miami.
For those that may have never heard of us, google
    “Hard Times and Bubble Gum”.
This exciting concept would have been an International stage to promote new Latin/Crossover talent as well as a formula to merge the cultures, and showcase the pioneers of Latin entertainment.
No one outside of Miami’s elite celebrity sector did more to try and promote Miami Beach though this project. We considered Miami our second home.
Spending eight plus years waiting on a promise that was not delivered left “Miami Beach”, The Game! in limbo.
Shame on those that whose words we believed in.
Those now famous words. “You have an excellent project, he’s going to do it, but you guys have to come back”.
“You can always dream, and dreams do come true”.
