Thrilled as we are to have escaped the wrath of the hurricanes whizzing past the Florida Keys, we hasten to alert visitors to the islands leading toward the Conch Republic Key West to the Hurricane of Motorcyclists heading their way next weekend. It’s the Annual Phil Peterson’s Key West Poker Run!
Imagine fifteen thousand leather clad bikers rumbling down the 2 lane blacktop stopping periodically to guzzle beer and collect playing cards at each of 5 destinations to form a winning hand of poker. For just $10, each player earns a chance to collect a winning entry into a round of Texas Hold ‘Em for the top prize, a custom Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster Motorcycle.
On Thursday September 18, a pre-ride party kicks off at Finnegan’s by the Miami River (410 SW 3rd Avenue, Downtown) at 8pm featuring the Betty Bangs Bikini contest. At the same time, those already in Key West can join the Poker Run Bar Crawl starting at 5pm at the Bottle Cap Bar at 1278 Simonton Street and ending many free drinks later at the Southernmost Beach Cafe where a Hot Biker Babes and Guys Contest warms up the weekend.
The official ride starts Friday September 19 at noon at Phil Peterson’s Harley Davidson South, 19825 South Dixie Highway with a second southbound run Saturday September 20. Once all riders have completed the five stops and arrived safely in Key West, the Grand Finale Poker Tournament takes place Saturday night at the Guy Harvey Bar & Grill at 11pm.
Key West events include a Custom Bike Show, a Paradise Tattoo Contest, a Jack Daniel’s Party at Sloppy Joes, a wild Pool Party and a Hog Roast at Schooners Wharf.
