Who will Get the Ankara Hotel in Miami Beach?

Ankara HotelThe Ankara project, which is directly across the street from the new Gansevoort South Hotel on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, has recently changed from a condo development to a planned 7-story hotel and is actively seeking a hotel operator to come on-board early during its development stage.

“We have had several conversations with Thompson Hotels out of New York which we are hopeful to conclude,” stated an attorney representing the project at a recent Board of Adjustments hearing. The Ankara has also been engaged in dialogue with numerous top-tier hotel operators including Bellagio Hotels, W-Hotels, Ian Schrager, KOR Hotel Group, Marriott, Setai, One Hotels and Orient Express Hotels.

Previously, the sticking point for some potential operators was that the project had to be completed within a year due to prior permitting constraints from the City of Miami Beach, however, the Board of Adjustments has now granted an extension to 2011 for completion of the project.

Interior consultants for the Ankara Hotel project, which is on the site of the former Banana Bungalow / Creek Hotel, are Allan Shulman and Kobie Karp.

Representatives of the Ankara say financing is already in place and will not be an issue for project.
