I Love Miami Spice!

mia-spice200.jpgVisitors cool enough to brave the heat of a Miami August will find generous discounts at some of the top South Florida Restaurants during the Miami Spice Event. The Greater Miami Tourist Bureau features more than 90 restaurants this year who were happy to promote a 3 course prix fixe menu for lunch ($22) and dinner ($35) to get folks out of their air conditioned houses and into their air conditioned dining rooms.

We like to review the menus as soon as they get posted online. We are impressed to see that some of the most exclusive and pricey restaurants like David Bouley Evolution at the Ritz Carlton and The Restaurant at the Setai are welcoming discount diners into their hallowed halls. For a unique taste of Florida, check out OLA at the Sanctuary Hotel, Blue Door at the Delano and La Marea at the Tides on Ocean Drive.

While the just-opened Devito South Beach continues to impress local foodies, new diners are welcome to check out the buzz with a light bite from the Miami Spice menu. Likewise, Govind Armstrong opens Table 8 to the event with a tempting menu and an offer of a complimentary cocktail when you purchase his brand new cookbook, “Small Bites, Big Nights” at Books & Books (933 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach - (305) 532-3222). With luck, you’ll find him out on the Vincci Hotel patio and score an autograph for your cookbook as well.

If you’re puzzled by the vast array of dining choices when planning your vacation, consult the website www.ilovemiamispice.com to learn about special events and featured menus during your stay. Be aware that some restaurants may only offer the set menu at lunch or dinner time or only during weeknights and that no substitutions are allowed. Once you find that perfect combination of courses, make reservations immediately. Miami Spice is scheduled to run through September 30, making it possible to try a brand new restaurant every night for two months without a repeat.

Now THAT sounds delicious!
