Miami Beach Itinerary for August 21-24, 2008

weekend5a.jpgWe would love to tell you that Fall is in the air as Pro Football Season kicks off and we put away our pool loungers in favor of a spot in front of the TV cheering the Miami Dolphins on to victory. The truth is, it’s still summertime and we can’t quite give up our SPF cream and pitchers of chilled mojitos.

This weekend promises some big things! Giants of classic rock, buxom blonde
bombshells and an A-List party at Shine have us searching for our favorite stilettos and a skimpy black dress to wiggle away another sparkling night on South Beach. Here is the game plan for August 21-24…

Thursday August 21
Breakfast

Paul Maison de Qualite / 450 Lincoln Road / Buttery soft croissants to plunge into a steaming cafe au lait sounds like paradise to us! This lovely French-style bakery and cafe enjoys a loyal daily following drawn by the aroma of freshly baked pastry that fills the air before dawn. Welcome to South Beach!

Lunch

Ritz Carlton / 1 Lincoln Road / Open up and say, “Spaaaaaaaa!” this afternoon at the Ritz where party girls are treated to a platter of fresh fruit, imported cheeses and fine champagne. Got your attention? Carita Paris-trained specialists gently wash, condition and blow-dry your hair to a glamorous new ‘do while you get your mani & pedi done. Voila! No more “Bad Hair Days” for you…

Evening Action

Boston @ Hard Rock / 5747 Seminole Way / “More Than a Feeling” still rocking your speakers? Join these monsters of classic rock tonight at 8pm as they bring the power ballad back to the best casino in town. ticketmaster.com

Cocktails

Noches de Nostalgia @ Ritz Carlton / 455 Grand Bay Drive / Salsa to a live Cuban band as you sip $6 rum drinks and nibble free tropical appetizers at the RumBar from 6pm-midnight. It’s Ricky Ricardo night on Key Biscayne!

Dinner

Escopazzo / 1311 Washington Avenue / Crafting their lush Tuscan cuisine on an entirely organic menu makes a night at Escopazzo not just good, but good for you. Chef Giancarla Bodoni makes each meal a labor of love and as a bonus, diners visiting this month can participate in Miami Spice pricing. 305-674-9450 ilovemiamispice.com

Nightlife

Runway Thursdays @ Mansion / 1235 Washington Avenue / Where hot fashion meets cool music! Find the slick new looks blazing down the catwalks at Mansion tonight. Dress to impress and arrive before midnight to beat the heat and the crowds. DJs Nikolas and Konflikt spin til 5am.

Friday August 22
Breakfast

Lido @ The Standard / 40 Island Avenue / Start the day with a few sun salutations at this temple of wellness and wonderful yoga. We like the whole-wheat wrap filled with scrambled eggs, tomato salsa and manchego cheese followed by a few hours of blissful tanning by the Bay. Namaste!

Lunch

Table 8 / 834 Ocean Drive / Pop out to the terrace and find a seat overlooking the glorious Art Deco district. Govind Armstrong’s lunch menu now includes a full-sized short rib grilled cheese sammie - formerly a highlight of the late night light bite menu. Sometimes it pays to be the early bird!

Evening Action

Wild About Widescreen @ Colony / 1040 Lincoln Road / Blonde Bombshell Jayne Mansfield shakes her money makers in her most famous film “The Girl Can’t Help It” at 8pm. With performances by Fats Domino, the Platters and Little Richard, this classic 50s flick promises to bring sexy back to the Colony Theater tonight.

Cocktails

Monty’s at the Marina / 300 Alton Road / Head west to the bay side of town for a cool drink and a few raw bar nibbles. Monty’s is our favorite sunset hangout overlooking the Miami Beach Marina.

Dinner

Texas de Brazil / 300 Alton Road / Big meals for big appetites are on tap tonight at this “Churrascaria,” a traditional all-you-can-eat steakhouse on the water at the Miami Beach Marina. Not for the faint of heart, diners turn a small placard to green and a swarm of carvers bring Angus beef, lamb, pork, sausages and so much more to the table until you cry,”UNCLE!” and turn the placard to red. 305-695-7702

Nightlife

Mayday @ Jazid / 1342 Washington Avenue / One of the hottest parties of the summer lights up tonight with recording artists Mayday rocking the mic in the main room. With a fun new sound that’s pretty hard hitting, Mayday promises you a night to remember. Fun tip: Beach attire gets you in free!

Saturday August 23
Breakfast

Big Pink / 157 Collins Avenue / Ever tried polenta fries? An overstuffed breakfast burrito awaits you this morning at our favorite SoFi diner where the game is always playing and the crowd gets really LOUD! Full bar and sidewalk seating available.

Lunch

Las Olas Cafe / 644 6th Street / A trip to South Florida is incomplete without at least one crisply pressed Cuban sandwich served cheesy-hot and delicious. Our favorite hideaway is popular with the surfer crowd and locals who demand freshly
baked Cuban bread and savory slices of roast pork and Swiss cheese. Try one and you’ll be back for more tomorrow!

Evening Action

Miami Dolphins vs Kansas City Chiefs / 2269 NW Dan Marino Boulevard / DolFans are a resilient group who have learned to roll with the changes. Bill Parcell in charge? No problem. Revolving door roster at training camp? Sure thing! Chad Pennington as quarterback? WTF?! The New York Jets Ex-QB takes center stage tonight at 7:30pm to show Miami there are no hard feelings for all the trash talk he’s endured now that he’s a …he’s a …D-D-Dolphin.

Cocktails

Vino Wines / 1601 Washington Avenue / Serving a well-chosen selection of boutique pours, this oasis of calm amid the frenzy of South Beach is the perfect escape for a happy hour that’s truly Happy.

Dinner

DeVito’s / 150 Ocean Drive / Restaurateur David Manero brings chef Mario Silvestri to South Beach to prepare classic Italian dishes (like mama’s meatballs) and prime grilled beef. The combination makes for truly memorable meals served in private dining cabanas or the decidedly glam main dining lounge. 305-531-0911

Nightlife

Dirtybird Wedding @ Shine / 1801 Collins Avenue / The Martin Brothers, Christian and Justin, bring their A-Game to Shine tonight for a dance party you won’t want to miss. DJ Sebastian opens. shinesouthbeach.com

Sunday August 24
Brunch

Emeril’s / 1601 Collins Avenue / Start the day with a great big BAM! as you sip a fizzy gin drink and devour the delicious Grand Marinier French toast with berry compote and cinnamon whipped cream. Decadent? Absolutely!

Afternoon Action

Lemur Lovin’ @ Jungle Island / 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail / Swimming with dolphins is dirty and dangerous so we’re opting for an up-close-and-personal visit with the lemurs at Jungle Island where guests over 6 can personally hold, feed, and play with these lovable creatures while learning about their interesting history. jungleisland.com

Cocktails

DJ Selfborn @ Love/Hate / 423 Washington Avenue / Spinning old-school hip-hop, R&B, reggae, and dancehall from the 70s, 80s, and 90s on Classic Sundays, the vibe is cool and the drinks are strong… what else do you need?

Dinner

Bistro One / 1 Lincoln Road / Executive Chef Thomas Connell prepares a modern American menu using fresh, natural products and a real passion for culinary innovation. From chilled lobster vichyssoise to a perfectly grilled rib eye propped over polenta-crusted onion rings, each bite reminds you why simple preparations bring out the best in good food.

Nightlife

Lazardi & Roland @ SPACE / 34 NE 11th Street / Tonight’s red-hot Terrace all nighter is perfectly suited to the dance crowd that never quits! Rocking the Terrace until 4pm Monday afternoon, DJs Lazardi and Roland bring the heat to the floor starting at 4am.

Have a Great Weekend!
