A Party at the Roman Pools – 1930’s Style

The Roman Pools were built by Carl Fisher between 22nd and 23rd Street on Collins Avenue where the original Collins Casino once stood. In addition to its oceanfront “bathing pools” and signature giant windmill, the complex also included a large ballroom where this Valentine’s Day event was held in February, 1930.

“A Night on the High Seas” fits perfectly with the nautical theme that would soon begin surfacing in late-1930s Miami Beach architecture, with hotels such as the Albion, Sherbrooke and Cardozo taking on a design reminiscent of the great ocean liners of the day.

An interesting note under the “Featuring” section of this advertisement is the description of Ethel Merman as “Song Star of Talkies.”
