Notorious! Jayne Mansfield Returns to South Beach
Miami Beach history buffs may recall that legendary blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield celebrated her honeymoon at the Morris Lapidus designed Eden Roc Resort in the late 1950s.
Currently undergoing an extensive renovation, the property has a storied past that includes celebrity guests like Sammy Davis Jr, Elizabeth Taylor, and Milton Berle. Lapidus designed hotels like the Eden Roc and Fontainebleau that were epic, fantasy destinations. His lobby concepts resembled luxe movie sets with sweeping staircases and massive chandeliers; perfect locations for making a grand entrance.
Embrace the spirit of this wild Russian architect along with Miami Beach film fans who will gather at the Colony Theater (1040 Lincoln Road) to watch the larger-than-life Jayne Mansfield classic, “The Girl Can’t Help It” at Wild About Widescreen this Friday night, August 22 at 8pm. This presentation from the Wolfson Archives is a celebration of those big, bold and beautiful babes who make Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton seem like scrawny afterthoughts of the MTV Age. The film features performances by Fats Domino, the Platters and Little Richard whose title track was recently sampled by Fergie in her hit song “Clumsy.”

Grab a ticket and front row seat at “Wild About Widescreen” at the Colony Theater, 1040 Lincoln Road on Friday 8/22 at 8pm.
