From Miami Tourist to Turntable Hero!

691021.jpgThe Winter Music Conference is still months away, so there is still time to learn to be a DJ right here in Miami. Why sit on the sidelines watching all the hot girls fawn over the guy in the giant headphones when you can be the center of attention next time you hit the clubs? Check out SCRATCH DJ Academy located in the heart of South Beach where winter sessions can have you mixing like the pros in only 6 weeks!

Consider DJ 101, a class for the novice that covers the basics of turntable training. Combining lecture and lab, the class offers plenty of practice time on the decks before and after school. The overview course is ideal for students interested in starting a DJ career or just considering a new hobby. Learn how to set up and break down sound equipment, basic elements of scratching and fading between 2 decks, elements of music theory and the essentials of mixing, blending and creating new tracks.

Advanced classes allow students to create a 6 record club set and mix tape which serves as a “calling card” for booking club dates. While most jobs require a well-composed resume, to get a job at a South Beach nightclub, you have to be able to present your skills with a professionally mixed composition. Scratch Academy helps students interested in making the leap to professional gigs achieve their goals after the 6-week intermediate level course. For those with all the drive and not a lot of time, there are 5 day “Boot Camps” covering all of the topics and lessons in an intensive learning environment. The next Boot Camp starts on December 10th.

Imagine mastering the basics of club DJ techniques during a week’s vacation in South Beach! Scratch Academy is located on 6th Street just off Washington Avenue in the heart of Clubland. Learn by day and party all night. Classes are taught by some of the best working DJs in the city including a variety of celebrity guest instructors. While there is no guarantee of employment at local clubs, learning a new skill in the center of the industry has obvious benefits. Students at the intermediate level learn how to create a mix tape, how to effectively market themselves and how to approach the scene with a degree of professionalism and confidence.
