Miami Beach Weekend Itinerary for April 3-6

weekend5a.jpgIf you’re coming to Miami Beach and not sure where to go or what to do, we can help! Each week we create custom itineraries for those seeking the very best that Miami Beach has to offer in restaurants, clubs and events. Here’s your itinerary for April 3-6.

The weekend brings new possibilities as all the House and Techno fans that were here for WMC head back overseas and Spring Break slowly gives way to other pleasures. April marks the gradual transition from breezy days, to sunny weekends, to the coming rainy afternoons. Try to spend as much time outside this month while it still feels tingly on your skin. We’ve got great ideas for days of fun in the sun and nights exploring the dance, music and culture of Miami and the Beaches.

Thursday April 3
Breakfast

Beach Bar / 2001 Collins Avenue /The click-click-clicking of stilettos across the shining lobby floor might distract you from your breakfast this morning, but not for long. The Beach Bar adjoins a sea of tranquility and three pools at the glam Setai. Watch the sun rise over the Atlantic and get ready for another dazzling South
Beach weekend!

Lunch

Joe’s Takeaway / 11 Washington Avenue / While the weather is balmy, lunch on the patio at Joe’s today where the wild mushroom lasagna, just-fried oysters and tangy key lime pie make the thought of a 2 hour wait at the dining room door a distant memory. There’s so much more than stone crabs on the menu at Joe’s Takeaway. Pack up a fantastic lunch!

Evening Action

Miami Beach Botanical Gardens / 2000 Convention Center Drive / Miami Beach Dance Festival Kicks off tonight as the Momentum Dance Company celebrates the infinite variety of dance from Breffni Irish step dancers, BrazzDance Theater’s Afro-Cuban and samba dance performers, Florida Dance Theatre ballet troupe, and New York City-based Ballet Hispanico, which will perform in Miami for the first time. Info at www.momentumdance.com

Cocktails

Bond Street Lounge / 150 20th Street / Chef Hirokazu Asano’s creatively plated sushi, sashimi, and starters are the most sophisticated Japanese tapas in town. Try the sesame-crusted shrimp and a selection from the interesting and reasonably priced sake list to kick start your evening. Kampai!

Dinner

Americana / 1 Lincoln Road / A retro supper club vibe awaits you at this elegant dining spot at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach. Perhaps the only venue in town with live, soft jazz and a vocalist to serenade you after dinner, this is your night for romance! Wear a soft and swirly dress and grab your favorite partner - you’re sure to feel pampered and delighted by the thoughtful service and the “Restyled American Classics” menu.

Nightlife

Mansion / 1235 Washington Avenue / Winners of the second MTV “Making the Band” Reality TV series, Danity Kane are set to release their new album at Mansion tonight. Join DJs Ideal and Konflikt as they rock the house for this all-girl Bad Boy Records event. http://www.theopiumgroup.com/danitykane/

Money Shot @ Vagabond / 30 NE 14th Street / Fans of the Downtown club scene will be following the crowds to this Thursday night port-a-party (born at the Pawn Shop, raised at Love Hate Lounge, and now all grown up at the Vagabond). Xavier Burt and Jake Jefferson tear down the VIP vibe in favor of the open-format, hip-hop dance party madness stirred up by Los Angeles DJ Blu Jemz and locals Induce and Contra. Free before midnight, table reservations available at 305-379-0508

Friday April 4
Breakfast

Ice Box Cafe / 1657 Michigan Avenue / We say TGIF this morning over a double-stuffed pancake ooooozing with nutella and swirled with fresh whipped cream. If that’s just too much to bear, there are plenty of low cal selections at this bakery-turned-cafe just north of Lincoln Mall. Grab a sidewalk seat and check out the specials before you cruise the shops for goodies.

Lunch

Quattro Gastronomie Italiana / 1041 Lincoln Road / Nothern Italian cuisine is often lighter than the savory tomato sauce favored in the south and twin chefs Nicola and Fabrizio Carro work tirelessly to update their market-fresh menu each day. After a spin along the mall, stop in for a perfect cucumber martini and a bowl of heavenly pasta.

Afternoon Action

Dolphin Stadium / 2269 Dan Marino Blvd / Our Florida Marlins host the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at 7pm and we’ll be there to cheer the Boys of Summer before it gets too damn hot to heft a dog and a beer. The first 10,000 fans receive a free team calendar to track team results from the comfort of your air-conditioned home for the rest of the season.

Cocktails

Clarke’s / 840 First Street / This friendly gastro-pub features more than 100 reasonably priced wines, including 17 poured by the glass. Stop by for Friday night happy hour and meet the locals who consider this their own rollicking “Cheers.” Share a giant soft pretzel with all of your new friends.

Dinner

Kobe Club / 404 Washington Avenue / The steakhouse that launched a thousand arguments in New York City is now making waves here in South Beach. Dine beneath a canopy of 2000 samurai swords and discover the subtle difference between wagyu beef from the US, Japan and Australia. With a seasonal raw bar, huge crab cakes and delicate Dover Sole, there’s something to please every palate at the Kobe Club. 305-673-5370

Nightlife

Dek23 / 655 Washington Avenue / Launching their brand new champagne bar, the bad boys at Dek23 host “Champagne Doggie Style” tonight with DJs Supersede, Mark Barbagallo and Zion. Check out the swank new interior that’s revved up in hot reds, Arabic motifs and more than 1200 LED lights.

Saturday April 5
Breakfast

Pelican Cafe / 826 Ocean Drive / Clubbing makes for a big morning appetite and the Pelican stands ready to oblige. Feed your need on crisp French toast and a strong cup of coffee and enjoy Ocean Drive while the rest of the city sleeps. Don’t bother dressing up; just a big pair of shades and something cool and cozy and you’re ready to face the day…

Lunch

Setai / 2001 Collins Avenue / Experience the serenity of the sunken garden or dine around the open kitchen to watch the chefs strut their stuff. With a trans-Asian menu making stops in Bangkok, Hong Kong, India and Tokyo, you’re bound to find something spiced just right for lunch today. The Setai is the priciest hotel in town so dress to impress and choose a Feast from the East.

Evening Action

Score / 727 Lincoln Road / The PennyBack Boys present their “One World” Party tonight on Lincoln Road with cute crowd, fun music and a bouncing dance beat. One of the most popular gay-friendly dance bars, Score welcomes everyone to their great new Saturday night social event. Call 305-535-1111 to get on the guest list or visit www.scorebar.net for details. After the dancing, treat your new friends to a round of drinks at Halo Lounge, 1625 Michigan Avenue.

Cocktails

Bayside Grill / 40 Island Avenue / Keep it light and delicious this evening at the Bayside Grill where health consciousness still tastes Great. This casually chic waterfront bistro attracts local spa enthusiasts who enjoy chef Mark Zeitouni’s modern riffs on light, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Toast the sunset on the patio overlooking Biscayne Bay and say, “Namaste!”

Dinner

O Asian Grill / Lincoln Road / Dining in courses is going to seem so old-school once you’ve tried the Kushiyaki “skewer style” grilled meats, seafood and veggies served at this nightclub-meets-dining loft on the second floor of O Asian Grill. Order a combination of six, eight or ten kebabs to dip into a variety of sauces from sweet to savory and you’re on your way to a new wave Asian-fusion evening.

Nightlife

Prive / 136 Collins Avenue / DJ Ron Luna hosts an open format night at Prive tonight with special guests from Empire Events. Contact 305-531-5535 for VIP seating including 2 bottles of premium vodka and admission for up to 6 guests.

Sunday April 6

Talula / 210 23rd Street / To call this brunch “all-you-can-eat” might conjure up images of old-school room temperature buffets. Frank Randazzo hopes to wipe such unpleasant memories from your mind with a dazzling selection of breakfast classics and lush tropical fruit, market-fresh entrees and seasonal seafood. All you can savor at brunch this morning is waiting for you at Talula from 11am-3pm @ $29 per person. 305-672-0778

Cocktails

Table 8 / 1458 Ocean Drive / Chef Govind Armstrong fills this indoor/outdoor lounge with the aroma of house-made tapas like flash fried olives and stone crab shooters right out of his new cookbook “Small Bites Big Nights.” Check out the view underneath the glass bottom pool and try a watermelon-jalapeño martini if you dare.

Dinner

Vix / 1144 Ocean Drive / Serving a fusion of Mediterranean and Asian dishes, Vix treats diners to a gastronomic getaway every night of the week. From just-baked nan bread to cool tequila-soaked ceviche, the menu heats up with Hong Kong style BBQ duck and lobster and chills you down with house made tropical sorbets for dessert.
