Miami Beach Itinerary for July 10-13, 2008
July is a party month and Miami is absolutely a party city! We’re joining forces with the Miami HEAT this weekend in celebration of Zo’s Summer Groove, an annual series of parties, comedy shows, concerts and an All-Star basketball game that raises millions of dollars for local charities. If you haven’t already bought tickets to the citywide events, run and get some! The town is booked with Big Names who will fill the clubs and restaurants all weekend long. Don’t miss it!
No matter what you decide to do this weekend, We’ve Got Game so let’s get rolling… so here’s your itinerary for July 10-13
Thursday July 10
Breakfast
Athens / 1214 Washington Avenue / Start the weekend with a burst of energy at Athens this morning. Stimulate your senses with a cool smoothie and feast of Florida-fresh fruit served with a house made mango puree that turns a humble salad into a tropical treasure. Nothing makes you feel like you’re on vacation more than a healthy breakfast and a quick trip out to the shore.
Lunch
DiLido Beach Club / 1 Lincoln Road / Following a selection of exotic tapas or a lavash wrap of taratoor chicken or spicy pesto shrimp served right on the beach, Miami Spa Month makes lunchtime a real treat! Experience the Prada Exfoliant Visage, a 50-minute facial treatment that minimizes the appearance of fine lines and makes you look younger! To get your baby face on – book a treatment today at (786) 276-4090
Afternoon Action
Wine, Women & Song at Azul / 500 Brickell Key Drive / Sommelier Cynthia Betancourt designed an award winning wine program at the Mandarin Oriental featuring over 700 world-class wines encompassing current releases and classic vintages. She shares her vast knowledge today at a wine tasting event that includes tasty tapas from the Azul menu and a gift bag to take along afterwards. Reservations are a must – 305-913-8358
Cocktails
Miami Improv / 3390 Mary Street / Coconut Grove is our cocktail spot this evening with a quick spin up to the bar at the Improv to check out funny man Tony Rock, Chris Rock’s equally-funny brother!
Dinner
ISHQ / 530 Ocean Drive / Discover the exotic cuisines of India tonight at this open-air dining spot made famous for their innovative preparations. With tikkis potato croquettes and tender crab samosas to start, try the chicken tikka masala and a mixed platter of tandoor roast treats. ISHQ means Love and we think you’ll fall for this spicy seaside restaurant.
Nightlife
Gravy Train @ Poplife / 1306 North Miami Avenue / Check out the goofy new sounds of Gravy Train (what happens when the B52s meet Ladytron) straight outta Oakland and live on stage Downtown tonight. Jose El Rey and The Mission Veo open. Doors at 8pm
Guilty Pleasures @ AeroBar / 247 23rd Street / Our new favorite Thursday night party spot promises to rock your world and probably get code enforcement to shut them down by midnight. Check out the club the Miami Vice cops can’t seem to get their arms around as they pump up the volume with Ross One, Joey Andron, Ryan Evans and Drop D.
Friday July 11
Breakfast
News Cafe / 800 Ocean Drive / One of our favorite guilty pleasures is the fried egg sammie with ham and tomato on a fresh crunchy baguette served in full view of people in skimpy swimwear who clearly do not start the day this way.
Lunch
Big Pink / 157 Collins Avenue / If Colonel Sanders tried to get healthy, he would try the fried chicken salad served up at this fun SoFi eatery. It has crisp boneless chicken strips tossed with lettuce, tomato, corn, black beans, avocado, cheddar, and creamy ranch dressing. Not exactly low cal, but it sure tastes good!
Evening Action
SoBe Live / 1203 Washington Avenue / Academy Award Winning Three Six Mafia hit town tonight to perform their first Miami club date. DJ Paul, Juicy J and Frayser Boy vaulted to international stardom following the release of their hit song “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” from the film Hustle & Flow.
Cocktails
Havana 1900 / 3850 SW 8th Street / Calle Ocho rocks most nights and the folks at Havana 1900 invite you to experience the soulful stylings of home-girl Albita performing live tonight. 305-444-4077
Dinner
Maino Churrascaria / 2211 Biscayne Boulevard / A new contender to the all-you-can-eat meat market that has overtaken South Florida recently, this intimate-scaled bar and grill will make a believer out of you! Chose from 15 different cuts of meat (beef, pork, chicken and sausage) brought to your table by a troop of friendly waiters who carve your selections and pair them with traditional sides including rice, beans, plantains and farofa. Hearty eaters will enjoy the over-stuffed salad bar or, on select Saturdays, the huge Brazilian Feijoada dinner. Reservations and information 305-571-9044
Nightlife
Lingeriebowl @ Mansion / 1235 Washington Avenue / DJ Ideal spins while the hot girls of Miami Caliente parade around the club in sexy lingerie. See what’s new in Fantasy Football and meet the girls who play full-contact football wearing next to nothing… www.lingeriebowl.com
Saturday July 12
Breakfast
La Marea / 1220 Ocean Drive / The trend toward organic dining has swept the menu at the Tides where all breakfast items are now natural, organic and decidedly fresh. While the lobster eggs benny beckons, we’ve gotten a bit too crazy about the banana chocolate chip pancakes as well. Healthier choices include seasonal fresh fruits and organic muesli but it’s tough to remain chaste when the menu offers so many goodies!
Lunch
Le Bon / 723 Lincoln Road / Belgian brews and steamy mussel pots make this a popular destination on the busy pedestrian mall. Start out early and get some shopping done before you grab a table in the shade and try the crispy fries and summer-fresh seafood.
Evening Action
Chris Tucker / 5747 Seminole Way / Zo’s Summer Comedy Jam rocks the house tonight and the HEAT will be out in force at this celebrity-filled comedy event at 8pm. Joining Chris Tucker on the main stage are Jay Lamont, Deray Davis, Joe Clair, D.L. Hughley and Marvin Dixon. Atlanta rapper T.I. and Katt Williams are scheduled to appear.
Cocktails
Rene Ruiz Trunk Show / 2700 Ponce de Leon / Sip champagne and feast your eyes on genuine Miami couture sundresses fashioned by our favorite dressmaker in his chic atelier until 6pm today. Grab a pair of Tuccia di Capri sandals and you’re all set to fly!
Dinner
Tatu / 5750 Seminole Way / While there are many options for dinner at the casino compound, Tatu Sushi is one of the best. Serving Florida fresh seafood both raw and cooked, it’s easy to make a meal of the small plate appetizers or to share a few with tropical cocktails before a traditional Japanese or spicy Chinese-style entree. Tatu is open late night and requires reservations weekends 954-583-1499
Nightlife
Spirits / 5729 Seminole Way / DJ Irie spins for the celeb fest after party featuring the starting line up of your Miami Heat. If you want to hang with Alonzo Mourning and Dwayne Wade tonight, head to the Summer Groove all night dance party at Spirits.
Sunday July 13
Brunch
Sardinia / 1801 Purdy Avenue / We confess to a real addiction to the spaghetti omelet the clever chefs at Sardinia discovered in an old Napolitano cookbook. Fresh eggs are scrambled with cooked spaghetti and peas and then baked like a frittata in the oven. It sounds ridiculous until you take that first bite… There are plenty of traditional choices on the Sunday menu, but hey – you’re on vacation. Try it, you’ll like it!
Cocktails
Rose Bar / 1685 Collins Avenue / The Delano maintains a chill vibe Sundays which is why locals flock to the bar for a smooth pour, a game of billiards and a great-looking crowd.
Evening Action
All Star Basketball @ AAArena / 601 Biscayne Boulevard / Grab a courtside seat and enjoy Alonzo Mourning and Dwayne Wade as they host an all-star game of b-ball at the Arena tonight at 6:30pm. A free block party kicks off an evening of fun and fierce-but-friendly competition.
Dinner
Tuscan Steak / 433 Washington Avenue / Our summer dining series continues with a great opportunity to sample the delicious cuisine at this top Sobe restaurant during their Summer Nights menu. For just $39 guests can enjoy four courses and a glass of wine including a caprese salad or fried rock shrimp and calamari, a pasta course, a selection of grouper, chicken or a 10-ounce steak and a chocolate and vanilla bread pudding for dessert. Reservations 305-534-2233
Nightlife
Worldsounds @ SPACE / 34 NE 11 Street / Sunday nights at SPACE make Mondays more fun. Why? The party rolls until 4pm! Tonight’s march features DJs Lazardi and Roland spinning right through the sunrise and on until the last hipster drops…
Have Fun!
