Miami Beach Itinerary for July 24-27, 2008

weekend5a.jpgWe know it’s hot out there but we’re a little sizzled by Beach Fire Marshals turning up the heat on the brand new clubs who are getting burned for “capacity issues.” Guess the economic situation brings a new due diligence from city enforcers who feel the need to fire up the cash-rich SoBe nightclubs while leaving guests to simmer out on the sidewalk. We’re all for safety, but it’s pretty odd this happened at the opening of Aero Bar and Heathrow Lounge back to back.

Try to keep your cool this weekend at these fun events, sizzling hotspots and divine restaurants. Here is your itinerary for July 24-27…

Thursday July 24
Breakfast

11th Street Diner / 1065 Washington Avenue / After a brief visit from Food-TVs “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives,” this South Beach eatery has it’s 15-minutes of fame! Stop in for a stack of hotcakes and a strong cup of coffee and maybe you can score an autograph.

Lunch

Spa @ Setai / 2001 Collins Avenue / At last a day pass we can sink our teeth into - a day of pampering including a 3-course lunch. Kick off the weekend with a 60-minute massage, facial or body polish and enjoy 3 pools, the steam room and the beach club. Reserve your spot in the sun by calling 305-520-6000.

Hit the show and enjoy performances by Sinister Smith, Treasures, Psycho Daisies, Old Wives Tale, and The Hongs. mocanomi.org

Cocktails

Bed / 929 Washington Avenue / A lot goes on between the crisp white sheets at this unique South Beach hotspot where guests can lounge on sexy mattresses and party like rock stars.

Dinner

North One 10 / 11052 Biscayne Boulevard / As we make our way north this evening, that tempting aroma filling the air is Dewey LoSasso’s innovative cuisine at the cozy clubhouse he and his wife operate on a quiet stretch of US-1. Do not be fooled by the gun shops and the gas stations, this is a real treasure house of savory Floribbean entrees and a brand new tapas style starter menu you’ll want to explore. 305-893-4211

Nightlife

Kaenow @ Dream / 1532 Washington Avenue / Pure house sessions welcomes special guest from Sirius Radio Area 38 - the legendary artist Kaenow. Locals may remember him and his partners David Alexander and Ben Linero (Ben Fear) from FIU’s Vanishing Point. DJ Juane and Luis Carrizo will spin sets all night.

Friday July 25
Breakfast

News Cafe / 800 Ocean Drive / After a few morning sun salutations out on the sand, follow the yoga crowd to the News where the yogurt is organic and the fruit salad is fresh. The sheer number of blissed out patrons puzzled us on a recent visit until we realized they had recently emerged from pre-dawn meditation to feed their spirits at this popular sidewalk
cafe. Namaste!

Lunch

Toni’s Sushi Bar / 1208 Washington Avenue / A legend on South Beach since 1987, Toni serves fresh seafood prepared in traditional and innovative ways. For a bright sushi lunch or a hearty Japanese cooked entree, stop by and let the friendly staff tell you what’s just been caught in the fisherman’s net.

Evening Action

Cocktails

Table 8 / 1458 Ocean Drive / Miami News: It’s hard to stop after one mojito, but after the second one it’s hard to walk. Sweet and minty, cool and refreshing, the bartender here at Table 8 knows how to muddle with the pros.

Dinner

Larios on the Beach / 820 Ocean Drive / While the opportunity to experience real Cuban cuisine on South Beach is not as promising as Calle Ocho, this busy cafe delivers the goods. Plates of steamed rice, rich black beans and fork-tender roast pork are a traditional Friday special at most Cuban restaurants and Larios kitchen definitely knows it’s way around the “Lechon.”

Nightlife

LMFAO @ Mansion / 1235 Washington Avenue / Texters know that LMFAO means they are really amused. Dance club fans know it also stands for a great team of LA spinning wizards who’ll take the night to all new places. Red Foo & Sky Blu will make you smile with their top track, “I’m in Miami Bitch…”

Terrace.

While it is possible to tune into an episode of his hit TV show 24 hours a day, we assure you he’s even better without a laugh track. Show starts at 7pm.

Cocktails

Mango’s Tropical Cafe / 900 Ocean Drive / Even if you can’t salsa, it’s hard to keep still when the music and the crowd bubbles with this kind of enthusiasm. Sip a Cuba Libre or a chilled Mojito and watch as sexy dancing girls pop up on the bar and shake their bon-bons.

Dinner

Il Gabbiano / 335 South Biscayne Boulevard / Dine al fresco overlooking the sparkling lights of the city at this brand new destination for traditional Italian cuisine.
