Miami Beach Itinerary November 27-30 2008

No theme song seems more appropriate for a wacky South Beach weekend than LOLA, the bi-curious anthem made famous by the Kinks (long before we were born). Ray Davies is coming to the Fillmore this weekend and there may still be tickets available for kinky fans old and new.
We have posted a number of top turkey dinner choices on the blog this week and we hope you’ve booked a table by now. There are still so many other hours of fun to plan for the weekend of November 27-30 including The Surfcomber’s all day pool party that’s at the top of our “Must Do” list. From drumsticks to DJs you’re going to be very busy this Thanksgiving holiday.
Wherever you go this holiday weekend, we wish you a fun and safe Thanksgiving and thank you for your support all year long!
Have a Great Holiday…
Thursday November 27
Breakfast
Paul Maison de Qualite / 450 Lincoln Road / Quality bakeries on the Beach are few and far between, but we find we return to Paul for the atmosphere, the people watching and the Buzz-Worthy selection of pastries. Start your morning with a strong cafe latte and share a few of the flaky treats while you chart your course through another South Beach weekend.
Lunch
Elemis Spa / 1601 Collins Avenue / Elemis therapists combine sea plants and marine algae with aromatherapy to detoxify your body and stimulate your system. Wrapped in a body mask and then massaged until every last bit of stress is a distant memory, you’ll emerge feeling brand new. 305-695-3400
Afternoon Action
Turkey Trot @ Tropical Park / 7900 Bird Road / Work off all of those extra mashed potatoes at this family fun run (and canned food collection) sponsored by Blue Cross. Did you know running a 10K can erase over 780 calories? Best of all, the event starts early so you can run right back home for seconds! For more info about this all-ages event – www.runmiami.com
Cocktails
Plunge / 2377 Collins Avenue / Start the evening overlooking the city and toast to all the things you’re thankful for – starting with the chance to spend the holidays right here in South Florida. Cheers!
Dinner
Talula / 210 23rd Street / There are a number of restaurants offering to cook you a traditional Thanksgiving dinner tonight but we are going to Talula for the 2 for $75 full-course feast. Frank and Andrea Curto-Randazzo make it easy to skip the potato peeling, the turkey basting and the endless dish washing. Wherever you choose, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Nightlife
Plunge @ Gansevoort / 2377 Collins Avenue / Party 18 stories above the ocean with a wild bunch of local beauties tonight. This swank adults-only pool deck features 26,000 sq.ft. of party space with sexy cabanas, cozy sun beds and a crowd that just won’t quit. Take the plunge!
Rotten Apple @ SET / 320 Lincoln Road / You may find that post-turkey buzz makes it impossible to get your groove on tonight, but we’re still confident the crowds will be rocking SET for the weekly gathering of those cute Rotten Apples.
Friday November 28
Breakfast
Balans / 1022 Lincoln Road / Breakfast at this popular UK cafe has the added feature of a $2 discount from 8-11:30am weekdays. Now that’s a happy hour we can definitely get used to! Try a full English-style brekkie or the eggs benedict. Once fortified, you’re ready for those Black Friday Sales!
Lunch
Spris / 731 Lincoln Road / Thin crust pizza and traditional Italian pastas make Spris a popular stop on the mall any time of day. Sharing an al fresco seating area with Score during this busy shopping weekend makes a table at Spris one of the most eye-catching spots you’re likely to find.
Afternoon Action
Thanksgiving Pool Party @ Surfcomber / 1717 Collins Avenue / The city’s top DJs spin for 12 straight hours of non-stop party from 11am-11pm poolside today. Join Erick Morillo, Kaskade, Mark Knight, Kurd Maverick, Oscar G, Cedric Gervais, Patrick M, Lazardi and Roland at this splash-tacular event!
Cocktails
Doraku Sushi / 1104 Lincoln Road / This popular Friday happy hour destination can be a little loud with techno music playing and folks shouting to be heard, but we like the sake selection and a few sushi nibbles to kick off the weekend with a fun and friendly vibe.
Dinner
Le Bon / 723 Lincoln Road / Perhaps mussels are a “love ‘em or leave ‘em” commodity, but we’re partial to the Oriental Mussel Pot at Le Bon for it’s steamy curry, lime, coriander broth. Check out this casual Belgian bistro for imported ales, steaming hot mussels and crunchy bread.
Nightlife
DJ Self Born @ Bella Rose / 423 16th Street / Chicago’s Most Magnificent DJ joins DJ Dharma for Friday’s hot new party. If you haven’t hit the Rose yet, tonight promises to be a breakthrough for the guy who put “Classic Sundays” on the map.
Saturday November 29
Breakfast
IceBox Cafe / 1657 Michigan Avenue / We like the Egg Box, a hot and tasty traditional breakfast made so much more homey by the freshly baked biscuit. You’ll like the double-stuffed pancake of the day filled with fruit or nutella depending upon the chef’s particular mood. While this sidewalk cafe is opened all day, it’s best at breakfast.
Lunch
Grillfish / 1444 Collins Avenue / One of the best casual seafood spots on South Beach serves lunch and dinner to a crowd of loyal regulars who enjoy the citrus mojitos and simply prepared fresh fish selection. We love the grilled fish cakes and the garlic clams served over pasta any day of the week.
Evening Action
Ray Davies @ The Fillmore/ 1700 Washington Avenue / Ray Davies brings a lifetime of hits to the Fillmore stage tonight. Check out this icon of the British Invasion performing songs made famous by the Kinks and telling stories of life and love on the road. www.ticketmaster.com
Cocktails
Gemma / 529 Lincoln Road / Kick off your evening at this trendy, second level lounge overlooking the busy mall. A ginger or pomegranate martini should make the view just a little bit brighter.
Dinner
OLA / 1745 James Avenue / Innovative ceviches, fusion Latin classics and a cozy atmosphere make OLA (Of Latin America) a great choice for dinner. Make a tapas meal of the starter menu including millionaire tacos, pork empanadas, fried oysters with fufu and then deconstructed key lime pie for dessert.
Nightlife
David Guetta @ LIV /4441 Collins Avenue / Check out the brand new nightclub at the Fontainebleau tonight with France’s favorite bad-boy David Guetta on deck. Notorious for his F@ck Me I’m Famous parties in Ibiza, tonight’s bash promises to bring the club scene back to Miami Beach.
Sunday November 30
Brunch
Nemo / 100 Collins Avenue / Thanksgiving weekend is all about family and house guests and over-indulging. To get out of the kitchen and away from the leftovers, have brunch at our favorite spot on South Beach where the food is fresh and creative and the atmosphere lends itself to a relaxing afternoon for everyone. Best of all, there are no dishes left to wash!
Afternoon Action
Vagabond Market / 7301 Biscayne Boulevard / Weekends were made for strolling through the marketplace grabbing just-picked goodies for dinner with the ones you love. The Vagabond Hotel makes a transformation from hourly rentals to farmer’s market with casual ease. Try fresh baked pastries, vine ripe tomatoes, fresh squeezed juices and everyone’s favorite – cupcakes!
Cocktails
Love Hate Lounge / 423 Washington Avenue / “Classic Sundays” have taken Miami nightlife to a new level. Fans of the non-electronic genre flock to Love Hate to find classic rock kicked up a notch and a crowd that’s a little edgier than the usual club kids.
Dinner
Escopazzo / 1311 Washington Avenue / Behind this small storefront on Washington Avenue beats the heart of a chef dedicated to organic cuisine prepared with love and a Tuscan sensibility. From vegetarian entrees to the hearty beef tenderloin, the menu satisfies on every level. Service is friendly and well-informed and the wine list has a few surprises to round out your meal.
Nightlife
Erick Morillo @ SPACE w/ David Guetta afterhours / 34 NE 11 Street / The party starts building with Patrick M warming up the crowd before the midnight madness of Erick Morillo out on the Terrace. By 2am, the night belongs to David Guetta who promises to keep you moving well past dawn. What can we say? Marathon parties make Miami magic!
Have fun!
