Miami Beach Itinerary for June 11-14 2009

weekend5a.jpgThis weekend is crazy as a June Bug! We hope you’re ready for nonstop action from June 11-14 as the Powerboat Champions roar into the record books just off shore at Haulover Park. Bring sunscreen, earplugs and plenty of friends.

The Art World gathers Downtown and also on Lincoln Road to celebrate the opening of a cool graphic arts exhibit that’s an update on those Pam Grier blaxploitation classics of the 70s. Renegades of Funk like the Spam AllStars will keep the weekend rocking all night long as Jazid celebrates it’s 13th Anniversary Street Party and then Stephan Luke takes over for the 5th Birthday of nightspot SET on Lincoln Road.

Music, Art, Fast Boats and Bikinis will make this a weekend to remember! Get ready to celebrate in the city we love best…

Thursday June 11

Breakfast

Mattarello / 1450 Washington Avenue / Best friends Massimiliano Guerri and Grace Messick join forces to create one of our favorite Italian cafes featuring Florentine classics all day and pastries tarts, cookies and freshly baked breads to make your morning just a little bit sweeter. The doors open at 7am so early birds can have their pick of the still-warm treats!

Lunch

Table 8 / 1458 Ocean Drive / Enjoy world class cuisine at a reasonable prix fixe $20 per person at Govind Armstrong’s recession beating lunchtime oasis. If you’re visiting South Beach and want to sample the best cuisine without busting your budget, stop by and see what’s on the set menu. Armstrong is also serving his full 8 Ounce Burger Bar fare at the Z Ocean Hotel now too!

Afternoon Action

Miami Art Museum / 101 West FlaglerStreet / Miami’s favorite cultural institution brings the sexy back to Thursdays with it’s summer series kickoff  from 6:30-8pm with a free open bar and a chance to meet other smarties on the prowl. An architectural documentary on the photos of Julius Schulman follows.

Clevelander Hotel / 1020 Ocean Drive / If you didn’t get enough of the Kardashians at the opening events for this fun house on Ocean Drive, head over there today to see the look alike contest where some lucky drag queen will take top honors and $1000 for “Keeping up with the Kardashians” in full hair and makeup. Khloe K. judges the event as part of the filming for her E! TV reality series.

Dinner

Eos / 485 Brickell Avenue / Hit the new restaurant at the Viceroy Hotel tonight to experience a new dawn. Chef Michael Psilakis and Donatella Arpaia join forces to create an upscale Greek restaurant on the 15th floor featuring quirky Kelly Wearstler designs and a mezze menu of small plates you can mix and match for a wonderful meal.

Nightlife

Louis / 2325 Collins Avenue / All eyes on the thighs tonight as Louis hosts the Gansevoort’s hot runway show for Inca Swimwear Summer and Cruise collections. See sexy models strut their stuff in skimpy lycra creations while DJ Chicco Secci spins. Drinks are free from 11-midnight!

Friday June 12

Breakfast

Half Moon Empanadas / 1616 Washington Avenue / A huge selection of pocket pastries awaits you this morning at this cozy South Beach cafe were empanadas arefilled with bothsweet and savory fillings. Argentina is famous for it’s super soccer, it’s friendly population and these delicious and handy treats to eat in or take with you for an alfresco start to the day.

Chef Allen’s / 19088 NE 29 Avenue / We are loving the “Chef for a Day” program Fridays in June where legendary Mango Gang Toque Allen Susser shows us all how he works his magic from 6-7pm. Start with a delicious late lunch next door at Pizza Roma and then repair to the demonstration kitchen to see how to recreate your favorite dishes at home.

Evening Action

James L Knight Center / 400 SE Second Avenue/ Head Downtown tonight for a soothing evening of sultry R&B featuring Charlie Wilson and Johnny Gill at the J L Knight Center starting at 8pm. Wilson fronted the Gap Band and Gill replaced Bobby Brown in New Edition in 1988, scored 2 duet hits with Stacy Lattisaw, and sold a million solo albums in the early 90s.

SFAC / 800 Lincoln Road / Join art enthusiasts at the South Florida Art Center opening celebration of “Freedom Fighters,” an exhibit of 12 original posters that riff on Blaxploitation films of the 1970s and the contributions of iconic African Americans like Harriet Tubman and Nat Turner. Drink, chat and mingle from 7-10pm at the Lincoln Mall gallery.

Smith & Wollensky / 1 Washington Avenue / The full renovation of South Pointe Park is definitely worth a looksee this afternoon. After you stroll the newly landscaped area, stop into this popular steakhouse to sample the Summer Lobster Special featuring a 2.5 pounder straight outta Maine for just $39.

Mansion / 1235 Washington Avenue/ Party tonight with Dirt Nasty, Andre Legacy and Andy Milonakis who join DJ Ideal at his weekly “We Rock Hip Hop” event. The party starts at 11pm and keeps thumping until 5am.

Saturday June 13

Lummus Park / Ocean Drive / Chug a power smoothie and hit the beach at 9am for the SHAPE Magazine Bikini Body Challenge! This all-day event features some smoking toned and tanned ladies working out in the red hot sun seeking optimal fitness. Grab a table on the terrace at the Regent Hotel and let super chef Mark Militello serve you his gourmet cuisine while you work on your tan and cheer some of the world’s top racers on their way into the record books.
