Sushi Rock Café
1351 Collins Avenue Miami Beach, FL 33139 (305) 532-2133

On trendy, competitive South Beach, longevity is rare, yet Sushi Rock SoBe has prospered since 1994 as one of the most popular restaurants in town. Its formula for success is remarkably simple -- combine consistently good sushi with classic rock 'n' roll and neon in a dark, edgy environment more akin to a nightclub than a Japanese restaurant.
Sushi Rock prides itself on always providing the freshest fish, expertly prepared by loyal sushi chefs who have called the place home for years. The service, from a friendly, energetic
waitstaff, is consistently good, too. But there are other sushi bars in town with good fish and decent service. What sets Sushi Rock apart is its obsessive focus on great music and the culture of rock 'n' roll. Classic album covers adorn the walls, along with electric guitars, Elvis memorabilia and timeless photos of the Beatles in performance during their heyday. On the sound system, Jerry Lee Lewis pounds out "Great Balls of Fire" or the room gets hopping with disco gem "YMCA" by The Village People.
For its wonderful eclecticism and consistent quality, Sushi Rock draws a South Beach insider crowd of scene-makers, such as models, artists, writers, club owners, media moguls and other restaurateurs. The place also appeals to mainstream tourists, conventioneers and assorted eccentrics.
Interestingly, its owner, Mr. Sunny, is Thai, not Japanese.

Review: I
am a regular to the restaurant. Keep coming back, the food is always
fresh, they cut the sashimi the way you want if you ask, and they always
try to invent new rolls. I try new places but keep coming back to Sushi
Rock. |

Review: Rolls
are too big for my taste. Is not the best
sushi of South Beach.
For around the same price you can try Bond St
on 20th and Collins.
Much better food, and value for the buck. But
I guess Sushi rock is
ok if you don't want to get to 20th St.

Comment: A
friend recommended this place to us and it was some of the best sushi
I've had in a long time. Everything came out incredibly fast, was super
fresh and they have some of the most reasonable prices on the beach. The
place itself has a personality all its own. None of the expected South
Beach pretentiousness here, just a nice mix of families, locals and the
occasional hipster or two. I would recommend the
Sushi Rock. |
