Joe Allen
1787 Purdy Avenue
Miami Beach, FL 33139

Fashionably spartan Joe Allen is a casual space with naked white walls and plain windows. It’s reclusive, crisp yet dusky, and a soothingly cool interior.

A mellow experience for its lack of pretense in both food and atmosphere, Joe Allen’s exclusive customers are a testament to what mature South Beachers are really about; no nonsense, no hype. General manager Mario greets everyone by first name. If he doesn’t know you, he will by the time you leave.

Civilized baby boomers and svelte yuppies mingle with the nouveau power-set over lunch while Miami’s most sophisticated 30-plus professionals pack into the bar at night. Fashion conscious boys bring their fashion conscious boy dates here, but what these folks all have in common is that they are clearly here to eat, not compete.

A self-proclaimed Mediterranean bistro, try one of Joe Allen’s gourmet main course salads or an exotic sandwiches. Chase them with a "glass" of house wine served in their signature pour-it-yourself carafes.

Review:  Quite a diversion from the other over-the-top SoBe places we visited. The whole place has a very old-school feel to it from the decor to the service. No fancy fusion, artsy stuff. Definitely a meat and potatoes, carb-heavy experience, but everything was very good. The prices were reasonable.
