Larios on the Beach |
820 Ocean Drive
Miami Beach, FL 33139

|
 |
Larios on the Beach, Gloria Estefan's lively Cuban
eatery, is more tourist-driven than most of the Cuban restaurants
embedded throughout South Beach. However, with large platters of black
beans and rice and a mojito recognized as one of Ocean Drive's best,
even locals can enjoy a change of pace from the
overly-chic-eclectic-fusion crowd every now and then and indulge in
something a little more kitsch. With a large selection of food, fast
service, and salsa music booming over the Spanish / English
conversations lingering nearby, it's a great place for vacationers or
the native south Floridians who find entertainment in the spectrum of
Miami's culture.

Review: The
food at Larios was delicious, however, this does not make up for the
poor service, limited menu and indigestion that my fellow guests and I
experienced. With the limited food options that were exhibited on the
menu, we found it disappointed to find that no beans accompanied the
main entrees, which is customary in all Latin cuisines.
After waiting forty five minutes for
the server to simply bring us our check, my fellow guests and I
experienced the worst case of indigestion and heart burn for the rest of
our 3 day stay. I do not recommend Larios restaurant to anyone visiting
the South Beach area until they provide better service, a more thorough
menu and a gastroenterologist. |

Review: We
tried the ropas viejo which was delicious and the pulled chicken which
was just chopped up friend chicken, both serviced with delicious fried
plantains. The black beans and rice were dried out. The people watching
from our sidewalk table was the best part of the meal. Our waiter was
authentic Cuban and very attentive. He called us "Sweetheart". It was
confusing that this is now "Bongo's" restaurant (the same as the one in
Downtown Disney) Parking is quite difficult and we had a long walk. We
didn't realize that this is all metered parking as the pay box was far
away. Fortunately, we didn't get a ticket. Inside Larios was beautiful,
however, there was a private party going on so we had to eat outside. It
was the warmest night in January so it was quite balmy. |

Review: We
love Larios/Bongos. We have been to SoBe close to 30 times and we
never miss Larios. In the over priced SoBe scene, Larios is a bargain.
The Mojitos are great and we have never been upgraded to a souvenir
glass, as mentioned below. I recommend the pork chunks appetizer, the
whole snapper, the roasted/marinated chicken, and you must have sweet
plantains/black beans/and rice. We can usually eat for less than $65
with a drink each. A bargain for SoBe. Check and see which nights they
have live Cuban Music. |

Review: As
the other reviewers mentioned, the Mojito's were fantastic but if you
don't specify, they automatically upgrade you to a souvenir glass for
$15.95 rather than the $11.00 price on the menu. The food was mediocre.
I've had better Cuban food at local sandwich huts in S. Miami. We had
the Fried seafood combination platter as an appetizer, which was great
but the fried pork was dry and flavorless. The Grouper also lacked
flavor. The beans and rice were dry and heavy. But the Half chicken in
creole sauce was pretty good. The location is great, right on Ocean but
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic
Cuban cuisine experience. I was disappointed to pay a $175 tab for "OK"
food. |

Review: We
are frequent South Beach visitors and dine at Larios on every trip. It
may be the best bargain on South Beach. We love the pork chunk
appetizer, the marinated chicken dinner, and always have the maduro
plantains with black beans and rice. No Larios experience is complete
without a Mojito. It is great for a casual lunch. If you are going for
dinner, check with the hostess for the nights with live music in the
dining room. Once again- perhaps the best bargain on the beach. After
dinner go next door for dessert at the News Cafe. |

Review: We
visit South Beach every year and have a list of favorite restaurants we
always visit when we're down. Larios was new to us this year and as a
result of your write-up, we decided to give it a try. Bottom line...
It's on our list. Atmosphere was great, our server made excellent
recommendations, and the food was terrific. This will definitely be one
of our stops next year. |

Review: When
I visited South Beach I actually visited this restaurant twice. The food
in Larios is very good especially the shrimps were delicious. The wait
can be a bit long at times and they can also make some improvement in
the service. But overall I definitely recommend this restaurant. |

Review: Vaca
Frita was too soft, and had no flavor-the Chef needs to know what "Sason
Completa" is and get with the program. I also believe they BS'd
the bill - 2 bowls of soup, 1 tamale, a 15.95 entree for Vaca Frita &
black beans (Separate) plus two sodas = $58 !! wow! |

Review: On
mother's day we chose to go to this restaurant and we were very
disappointed. The server was rude and careless and seemed in a hurry at
all times. Our appetizers came literally 60 seconds before our entree.
The food was warm and not as tasty as we had imagined. At this
restaurant it seems the servers treat their co-workers with more respect
and attention then the people their serving. |

music, real sangria and authentic Cuban food - we loved it all! I was on
business this time, but I have been here before with my wife and I've
had an exceptional experience each time. The food is a little heavy -
it's Cuban after all - but the Tostones are great. My associates and I
had a a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to returning to South Beach. |
