Tonis Sushi Bar Japanese Restaurant
has made
trendy interpretations of traditional Japanese cuisine a hit for well over a
decade (which is a lifetime in South Beach years).
Tatami mats line a quiet enclosed room
surrounded by fresh bamboo dividers, where patrons luxuriate in dining on the floor.
Scallops and Asparagus in Buttery Miso Sauce is worth sampling. We also favor the
"South Beach," a funky hand roll of baked eel, salmon skin, avocado, spicy
mayonnaise, scallions and cucumbers wrapped in nori seaweed. Great big steaming bowls of
udon or soba noodles in broth are topped with beef or shrimp, or vegetables. Prices
can be
hefty, so beware.
Review: I
love Toni's. I lived around the corner from there and ate there
at least once a week. Very nice staff and
excellent quality.

Review: I
visited Toni's during my recent trip to Miami Beach for a girlfriend's
bachelorette party. When we arrived we were told we had to wait because
we had kind of a large party (8), but they finally got us seated in
under 30 minutes, which we thought was pretty reasonable. We ended up
ordering a bunch of rolls and sashimi and sharing everything and the
food was really great. The fish was SO fresh! it absolutely makes a
difference and obviously Toni knows this. The waiter was very friendly
and didn't miss a beat with the service. We had new cocktails and water
refills without having to ask, which was a definite plus. The décor and
ambiance could have been stepped up a little, but in the end it is the
sushi that really matters and it was top notch.
