Chef Jeff McInnis' training in Charleston,
South Carolina, St. John, Virgin Islands, San Francisco
and rural Virginia brings a roundness of flavor to the
menu at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar where fried
chicken may be the star, but the cast of supporting
characters is equally impressive. The chef's personal philosophy about being a
Southern Boy runs deeper than matters of geography — he
considers it a factor of being grounded in "a sense of
place, of tradition, of family, hard work and each
other." To those essential principles he dedicates his
South Beach country-fried-chicken restaurant where the
cooking, culture and hospitality of his Florida
panhandle roots inspire every plate. Spending childhood
winters by the sea and summers on his grandparent's
Alabama farm, McInnis learned what farm-to-table really
means when it comes to the wholesome quality of real
food.
Serving a soulful
weekend brunch, a busy lunch and dinner service and
maintaining a newly popular South Beach Bourbon Bar has
catapulted Yardbird to the top of the "Must See List"
for any Florida vacation. While the biscuit sandwiches,
pumpkin beignets and chicken & waffles are popular
weekend highlights, standouts at every service are the
welcoming atmosphere, the professional waitstaff, the
jovial buzz in the dining room and the familiar aroma of
down-home goodness in the air!

Comfort food favorites include
Mama's chicken and biscuits, flaky housemade buttermilk
biscuits split and topped with crisp fried chicken and
sharp pepper jelly. Braised short rib meatloaf is filled
with tender slow-cooked beef and topped with chunky
tomato jam, smoked onions and sides of mashed potatoes
and fried okra. Shrimp and grits, veggie pot pie and
corn three ways (grilled sweet corn, fried hominy &
crisped cornbread crumbles) add an eclectic twist to
traditional recipes. Much like supper at grandma's, food
is served family style as it comes off the fire making
the notion of starters and main dishes a little less
important than the fun of sharing a meal. South Beach
finally has a destination restaurant that's as
authentic, wholesome and friendly as the man who
inspired the menu. Yardbird captures the flavors of the
South for your mouth.
