Nuevo Latino
culture and cuisine have swept the nation in the last year, and we can attest to the fact
that, at least in the case of the food, it all started here. In the case of music too,
Yuca may have had a thing or two to do with the boom. The place where star chef Douglas
Rodriguez, the grandfather of Nuevo Latino fare, honed his skills (before moving on to a
string of successes in Manhattan), Yuca on Lincoln Road is a hangout for Latin American
movers and shakers.
MTV Latino corporate offices are within earshot of the place. Sony
Musics Latin American branch is a stones throw away. The original Yuca in
Coral Gables celebrated a trend of "Young Urban Cuban
Americans"—hence the name—moving into the forefront of upscale entrepreneurialism and politics in this city
fifteen years ago.
Lincoln Roads Yuca is a sign of the changing times, as the Latin
entertainment industry takes its place as a major economic force internationally. High
powered execs and proud Latin American transplants have made Yuca their corporate dining
room, the most important place to see and be seen, and one of the hottest spots for local
live salsa.
Insider tip - Friday & Sunday nights at 8.15pm, the girls of SalsaMia.com
welcome visitors to Yuca's second floor lounge to spend a friendly hour or
two learning the basic steps of Salsa Dancing. Come alone or bring a
partner; there are plenty of people ready to share their enthusiasm for the
music and rhythm of Latin America. Enjoy drinks and appetizers prepared by
the Yuca chefs while meeting fun new people at this truly international
gathering. After the class, guests are welcome to stay and dance the night
away (Fridays 'til 2am, Sundays 'til midnight).

Review: Well
I want to say the good first, the good thing about Yuca is their salsa
classes on Fridays, I had no idea that dancing could be that fun the
first time you try it, the Instructors and staff were very fun and
caring and they thought great stuff, now about the Yuca staff... they
were the worst! rude, impatience the food was terrible ((not real Cuban
food) and way way over price, and when I ask to talk to a manager there
was none, they need to fire everyone! but go to their salsa classes you
will have a great time as long as you don't eat there! |

Review: My
husband and I went to Yuca last night with a few friends (we were 9
total). The service was really bad. The food was not worth the price.
The currasco that me husband ordered was $35.00 and it didn't even
measure 7 inches. The waiter even tried overcharging us a drink and
accused that group that we had ordered an appetizer and did not want to
pay for it. My husband and I only had 2 mojitos, 1 appetizer and 2
entries: COST 156.00. Avoid this place. |

Review: Way
to expensive for the service and the food. My boy-friend and I could
have cooked this at home and done a better job. The tostones were so
bland, they were just fried with no thought of any seasoning. |

Review: Four
of us dined at an outside table and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of
Lincoln Road. While there was some difficulty with ordering the service
was pretty good. It would have helped if some of the other staff had
been able to speak English. The food was delivered quickly and still
hot. We all ordered different entrees and enjoyed all of them. The
shrimp appetizer and the chocolate sponge cake were great. |

Review: The
service was bad and snide, the appetizers cold and bland, the entrees
poor to acceptable, and the desserts horrible! There were 6 of us and
we al had different things. Avoid this place at all costs! |

Review: I
think they should change the name to Yuccy. A
total waste of money. |

Review: This
was the supreme Latin rip off. The waiters
were arrogant and would not speak English. The food was left over from
yesterday. I had their famous guava ribs which were re-cooked
from yesterdays batch and their plantan mush?...not
good. Most sides were stale and obviously left out on a counter for some
time before serving. Within two hours I had severe diarrhea. I should
have known, when we entered no one was there.
The waiter explained the lunch special and was indignant when I asked
the price. $39.95! When I said that was expensive for lunch. He said,
"well you pay for fresh food." I should have walked out then. |

Review: Just
came back from Yuca at South Beach. Ordered the Conch Tamales appetizer
and Grilled Tuna entree. Asked if the order is too large for one. The
waiter said no. Little did I know that they are asked to "push" the
orders. The gratuity is added to the price (17%) no matter the
service. The grilled tuna had a sweet sauce covering it. I ask why
grill when you put a sweet and sour gravy style sauce on the tuna? I
don't recommend this restaurant. Instead go for a real Cuban
restaurant. |
